Free Tasting: Saturday July 24th 3-6pm! (Tinhorn Creek Merlot & Pinot Gris)
As part of our ever popular "Wine of the Week" promotion, this week we have decided to showcase four excellent wines, from a very well known producer. Broadway International Wine Shop presents the wines of Tinhorn Creek.
About the Winery
On a hillside overlooking vineyards, sagebrush, and the old gold mining creek that is its namesake, Tinhorn Creek Vineyards has been owned and operated by the Shaunessy and Oldfield families since 1993. The winery is located south of Oliver, BC, at the junction of Highway 97 and Road 7 in the famed Golden Mile wine-growing district. This area, named for its rich history of farming that dates back to the early 1900s, is home to several quality wine producers. Tinhorn Creek sources fruit exclusively from its own vineyards: 150 acres of prime land on two very distinct benches. This land lends to the creation of terroir-driven wines that are classic illustrations of the place they are grown. The 100-acre Diamondback Vineyard on the Black Sage Bench is planted with a mix of red and white varieties, primarily Pinot Gris, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The 50-acre Tinhorn Creek Vineyard on the Golden Mile Bench is also planted with a mix of red and white grapes, but primarily features Gewürztraminer.

Winemaker Notes
As with previous vintages the 2007 Merlot was harvested, crushed, and fermented in separate lots before moving into a combination of one to four year old American Oak barrels. After spending 12 months oak aging the different lots were blended together in stainless steel tanks before being bottled. Approximately six months of bottle aging before release ensures that this wine is ready to drink upon release.
Food Pairing Notes
Try this wine with roast chicken, lamb chops, or pasta with ragu or arrabbiata sauce. Or enjoy it with aged Cheddar, Gouda, or Reggiano cheese.

Tinhorn Creek, '07 Pinot Noir
$17.68
(Regular Price $19.85)
Supple and well balanced, it has a velvety texture that is pure Pinot Noir.
"Lovely ripe cherries and black raspberries. Terrific acidity makes it both refreshing and mouth-watering. Silky with a medium-body." 88 points - Natalie McLean, November 2, 2009
Winemaker Notes
Winemaker, Sandra Oldfield, likes to harvest the Pinot Noir in the early morning as the cooler temperatures keep the fruit characteristics of the grape at their peak. After being crushed the grapes were sent to cool stainless steel tanks where they sat on their skins for several days. After fermentation the wine was placed in older American oak barrels for 10 months. By using older oak barrels the wine picks up softer oak flavours and allows the fruit characteristics to be more prominent. The Pinot Noir was blended together before being bottled in August 2008.
Food Pairing Notes
This is summer red par excellence – easygoing, adaptable, and perfect for picnics. Give it a few minutes in an ice bucket and bring on the turkey burgers, grilled sausages, or BBQ chicken. |
Tinhorn Creek, '09 Pinot Gris
$16.96
(Regular Price $18.85)
A fantastic food wine, the 2009 Pinot Gris is clean, crisp, and fresh. It is full of citrus, apple, melon flavours and aromas as well as apples and pears and herbal notes.
Awards
BRONZE NorthWest Wine Summit, 2010
Winemaker Notes
About 50% of the fruit for our Pinot Gris comes from our vineyards on the Black Sage Bench (Diamondback) and 50% comes from our vineyards on the Golden Mile Bench (Tinhorn Creek). This gives the Pinot Gris the best characteristics of both benches.
Food Pairing Notes
The freshness of this Pinot Gris enables it to partner strongly flavoured, spicy dishes. Very nice with Thai curries, quesadillas, and fish tacos. Smoky flavours work well too: grilled sausages and smoked pork chops would be delicious choices. |

Tinhorn Creek, '09 Gewurztraminer
$16.96
(Regular Price $18.85)
This Gewurztraminer is full bodied and vibrant with tropical, melon, peach, pear, apple, honey, and vanilla flavours. The aromas are similar to the flavours, but also include some spice and floral notes.
Tasting Notes
This Gewurztraminer is full bodied and vibrant with tropical, melon, peach, pear, apple, honey, and vanilla flavours. The aromas are similar to the flavours, but also include some spice and floral notes.
Winemaker Notes
Tinhorn Creek Vineyard provides a distinct 'terrior' for our Gewurztraminer. The easterly aspect shields the Gewurztraminer from the hot Okanagan sun enhancing the varietal's true characteristics. The small berry and clusters produced this vintage exhibit the aromatic scent, and tropical fruit driven palate which are distinctive to this variety grown on the Golden Mile.
Food Pairing Notes
Gewurztraminer's exotic tropical aromas make it the classic summer sipper: fresh air and sunshine are perfect partners for a well-chilled glass. Add some prosciutto and melon, Vietnamese spring rolls, or smoky grilled prawns and a good thing becomes even better.
